For extra soft paint (like GMC black) you will need towels with an extra fine yarn, to prevent scratching, micro-marring, and trails. These towels are made from yarn that has a smaller diameter then other microfiber yarns. The extra fine yarn has a lower mass per length, so it has a lower chance of leaving a mark.
This yarn is more difficult to build in a consistent way, hence the more expensive price. You don't need to use this type of towel on every type of surface, only those which are most susceptible to be easily damaged.
